6) NEW HERMIT CRAB SHELL PAGE AND MOLTING
http://www.seashellshop.com/hermitcrabs/shells.html
We have a new way to buy shells that gives you a full size assortment.  It seems to work better as measuring isn't always tried and true.
Also look for our new books on line and a new heater for under the cage.

I have had many questions about hermits this month on dieing and molting.  It seems you can't tell the difference.  If he is molting and his exoskeleton falls to the edge of his shell.  It does look like another hermit but hollow. That is his exoskeleton.  If the whole hermit falls out and smells he is dead, I am sorry to say. If he looses a claw or more, even an eye, he will grow it back during molting,BUT you must have a dish of water in the cage that he can get into.  If not hermit will get stressed and could die.  They do not like being dehydrated and not having enough water.  They need to keep their gills on the back part of them wet at all times.

Another problem some have had is mites.  They are not from the hermit but dust mites from the warm environment and your home.  They need to be rinsed off in luke  warm water while still keeping the hermit submerged.  The mites will float off. Do this procedure several times.  Then a must is change all the sand and clean everything in the cage before you put him back.
