In February 1978, a violent storm with waves up to 70' high smashed into the
lighthouse and destroyed the keeper's house. In and amazing rescue a Coast
Guard helicopter rescued the 2 keepers trapped in the light tower. The 133'
tower is the tallest lighthouse in Maine. |
