Pirates Book
This inclusive, interesting, and general look at pirates informs younger readers of famous pirates, ships, crew clothing, flags, pirate lingo, life at sea, and general seafaring terminology (some in boldface, and some of which reappear in a glossary). The kid-friendly look of the book is enhanced by posed photographs of adults and children in the Cayman Islands playing at pirates, full-color drawings, and a few paintings by Howard Pyle. The introduction rightly separates the real nature and deeds of pirates from our fascination with their trappings and frees children to enjoy learning about pirates and playing with pirate treasure maps, clothing, and expressions while learning about pirate life in the 1600s and 1700s.
