Roanoke River North Carolina lighthouse, which sat 42 feet above Albermarle Sound, which encircles the Outer Banks above Roanoke Island. Regarded as one of the most historic regions in America, the first colonists arrived on Roanoke Island in July 1587, mysteriously disappearing and now remembered as The Lost Colony.
