DONNA ELIAS' Great American Lighthouses Collection began simply as a pen and ink sketch of the Cape May Lighthouse. The year was 1988 and the unknown artist had opened a small gallery for the summer in the seaside resort of Cape May, New Jersey. That simmer Donna Elias "discovered" and began painting lighthouses. Raised on the Jersey shore, the young artist had always enjoyed drawing seaside architecture and Donna found lighthouses to he the grandest of all maritime structures. Donna' s initial lighthouse sketches were well received by the public and quickly sold out of her little gallery. This early success inspired Donna to hone her skills as a watercolorist and to focus her work on one primary subject. She soon set her goals on creating a definitive series of works celebrating all of America's lights and the Great American Lighthouses collection was born.

Donna Elias began her career at sixteen drawing caricatures on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Remarkably, except for a high school art class, her skills are self- taught. Today, Donna has completed an astonishing 2110 lighthouse paintings. Her beautiful work has gained national acclaim and she is considered by many the foremost artist in her field. Honors include the official endorsement of the prestigious United States Lighthouse Society. Noted exhibitions have included Walt Disney World and Sea World of Florida, as well as numerous showings a maritime museums and lighthouses nation wide.

Donna's work continues from a small studio on Clam Creek in the back -bay section of Atlantic City. She has recently begun a sister series called "Heroes of the American Coast" which commemorates the U.S. Lifesaving Service. Her research takes her to most of the locations she paints, but the artist also works from her extensive lighthouse library and from photographs friends and fans send her from around the worlds. Her prints now adorn a variety of gifts, textiles and home accessories - which are sold worldwide.
