Today, with the advent of Loran and GPS, the role of lighthouses has changed significantly. Ships can navigate around the world with the crew hardly ever having to look out the windows. Many lighthouses have been deactivated. What used to take a keeper to maintain a constant vigil over the light, now only needs a circuit board and some micro chips. However, the weekend boaters still look for the light. Whether or not these magnificent structures still shine, they still serve as a reminder of our historic maritime past.
It took many years to accumulate this vast collection of lighthouse photos. Many miles were travelled by car, boat, airplane and helicopter. 64 pp. Softcover.
